GUWAHATI: To provide relief to the poor and destitute people during the extended lockdown period to contain COVID-19, the Assam Government has decided to provide 5 kg rice per month per member per family who do not have ration cards under National Food Security Act (NFSA) in spite of being genuinely poor. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced the decision on Monday after visiting Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns at New Guwahati and Changsari.
Sonowal interacted with the officials and labourers of the FCI to understand their preparedness to deal with the situation arising out of Coronavirus outbreak.
Speaking to media persons, CM Sonowal said, “Assam has more than 2 months of food stock available at the moment. Assam Government has decided to provide 5 KG free rice to the families who do not have a ration card.”
