Guwahati: Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Biswajit Daimary on Wednesday morning filed the nomination paper for the Rajya Sabha elections in Assam to be held on March 26. BPF is in alliance with BJP and AGP in Assam.
Two-time MP Daimary was accompanied by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary.
Biswajit Dasimary was first elected in 2008 and again he was elected for second term in 2014.
Meanwhile, in Assam 9 candidates have collected nomination forms for the 3 Rajya Sabha seats which got vacated this time. Given the MLA strength there are strong chances of BJP and BPF bagging one seat each. The third seat might go to the united opposition of Congress and AIUDF if there is no cross voting.
So far, senior journalist and anti-CAA activist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, former MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, Satyendra Prasad Deka, Abdul Rezzak, Subhash Dutta among others have collected their forms. The last date for filing nomination paper for Rajya Sabha Assam seats is 13 March.
