GUWAHATI: In a sensational incident that sent ripples across Assam, body of a woman lying beside an infant was found in Assam’s Darrang district on Monday. The body was recovered in the public grazing field at Ramhari village.
The woman identified as Asfuli Khatun was married to one Foinuddin Ali of Bandia village.
The incident came to light on Monday afternoon when a local villager who had come to the ground at around 3 PM for grazing his cattle and heard the infant crying.
He then found a male baby around 7 months old lying beside the dead woman.
The police immediately recovered the body and sent it for the post-mortem. The post-mortem will be carried out today.
The baby which was shifted to Mangaldai Civil Hospital is in good condition, informed health workers.
Meanwhile, family members of the woman alleged that she was killed by her husband and in-laws. They have demanded proper investigation into the death of the woman.
