GUWAHATI: As it has come to light that the American citizen who tested Coronavirus positive in Bhutan visited Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and took elephant safari, the forest department has initiated medical check-up for all the mahouts (persons who work with, ride, and tend elephants) of the national park.

According to reports, the US citizen along with his partner visited Kohora area of Kaziranga National Park and undertook elephant safari on February 28.

The officials of the national park arranged a medical check-up camp at  Kohora Model Hospital. Two isolation wards have already been set-up at the hospital.

“We were called by the ranger. Two foreign nationals came on February 28 and undertook elephant safari,” said a mahout.

“We will have their preliminary test now. If any suspected case is found, we will keep him in isolation ward and inform our team at Golaghat,” said a doctor of the hospital.

On the other hand, the forest officer of Kohora Forest Range said, “We have arranged the health check-up as a part of precautionary measures. We have not noticed any symptoms among our mahouts.”
