Himanta Biswa Sarma dismisses possibility of Inner Line Permit in Assam

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Amid speculation over introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Assam, state finance, education and health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has dismissed any such possibility.

Speaking to media persons in Guwahati today, Dr. Sarma said that ILP can’t be introduced in Assam since it is the ‘gateway’ of entire Northeast India. He also claimed that state’s economy will be hindered if ILP is introduced.

“If people can’t come to tea gardens, can’t come for OIL, ONGC or can’t do business in Assam, then the number of unemployed people in the state will be tripled,” Sarma added.
