CBI search operation at NF Railway HQ

Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials on Wednesday launched a search operation at the Northeast Frontier Railway Headquarters in Maligaon, Guwahati.

According to reports, the CBI search operation was in connection with a scam of Rs. 5 crore over financial irregularities. CBI officials searched the office of IRPS, Sunil Kumar at NFR’s Maligaon headquarters. CBI seized several objectionable documents and other evidence from Kumar’s Maligaon office.

Sources in the CBI stated that Sunil Kumar, who was earlier posted as a finance manager at the Indian Railways’ Lumding branch was involved in financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 5 crore 13 lakh.

A case (RC-12-A-19) was registered against Kumar, who, along with another ex-employee of railways Sanjay Chakraborty, embezzled funds by creating false bills and siphoned off funds through Axis Bank to their relatives’ accounts. The CBI also searched Chakraborty’s residence. To collect evidence the CBI conducted separate search operations in Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand.
