Mediator can play role, but talks will be between Govt. and ULFA(I): Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: “Mediator can play role in the talks. But if talks take place it will be between government and ULFA(I),” said Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Amid speculation over possible peace talks with the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Assam (I), minister Sarma has termed entire development as positive.

“Paresh Baruah has said that their delegation will come to Guwahati. He said that he will come if it is necessary. Therefore, I have taken entire development as positive,” Dr. Sarma said.

On the other hand, reacting to recovery of IEDs in Guwahati on Wednesday night, minister Sarma said that such incidents dampen the spirit of the people who take initiatives for the talks.

Speaking on the subject of talks between government and ULFA(I), Dr. Sarma said, “Sovereignty is a sacred subject of Indian constitution. But there are platforms to discuss people’s emotion, frustration and genuine issues.”

“We should go beyond the word and take an approach that we will discuss everything under the sky,” he stated.
