GUWAHATI: Formation of a literary body in Assam on the basis of religion has resulted in reactions from all over the state.
The recent formation of ‘Assam Islamic Sahitya Sabha’ and it’s soon to be held conference has started debates and arguments on social media.
A release by the so-called literary organisation has announced a conference to be held in Adabari, Nalbari, Assam on 13, 14, 15 March. A delegate meeting will be held on 12 January at Al-Halal Dining in Hatigaon, Guwahati.
Reacting to the news, Asom Sahitya Sabha president Dr. Parmananda Rajbongshi said, “What is the point of starting a literary body on the basis of religion? We are going to protest about it. The Asom Sahitya Sabha is not aware of such body and it looks like a political stunt.”
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has come down heavily on the development. AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “Using religion as a tool to divide the society or to spread communal feelings will not be accepted by AASU. Irrespective of the person’s faith such acts will be opposed by AASU, always. Especially in Assam, we have been talking about bringing harmony within the various communities and so we condemn such divisive thinking.”
