A massive row has now surfaced over the strip-searching of a pregnant woman at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.
The incident took place on Sunday when the woman and her husband were at the airport proper to taking a flight to New Delhi. They were returning to Delhi after attending the rituals following her father’s demise. The woman is 6 months pregnant.
The woman’s husband said the CISF staff at the airport refused to give them their boarding passes and insisted on providing them proof of her pregnancy.
“We were carrying her prescriptions but had left it in check in a bag since the airline staff did not allow us to carry too many bags,” the woman’s husband said, and added that a woman CISF officer took her to a room where she was forced to undress.
“The woman officer also pushed her abdomen to check my wife’s pregnancy,” he further said.
After the couple raised the matter with airport officials and the CISF, a spokesperson said they are looking into the matter.
