Guwahati: Unlike wild tuskers that mostly remain anchored in the jungle, in a bizarre incident a wild tusker barged into the Army Canteen Narengi in search of food on Wednesday afternoon.
Though the wild elephant didn’t hurt anyone but damaged some canteen property. It was seen kicking the chairs and tables that were set in the canteen.
The canteen staff and Armymen present at the premises tried their best using different techniques to get the tusker out of the canteen. Finally they managed to push the wild tusker into the open area using fire torch by distracting it.
This is not the first time when elephants have intruded into Guwahati. A few days ago a lone wild elephant was seen walking down Guwahati’s busy GS road. It had led to massive traffic jam during peak hours. Eventually, forest officials tranquilized the elephant to get it off the streets.
The main reason for such incidents is soaring deforestation. Deforestation in India has left wild animals with less space to live and is increasingly driving them into conflict with humans.
