A book on Assamese grammar and essays written by a little-known writer for school students in Assam is now at the centre of a massive controversy after the writer claimed Bihu is celebrated on the last day of every Assamese month and that there are twelve Bihus in all.

The book named ‘SAHAJ BIYAKARAN ARU ROSONA’ and meant for students of Class VI-VIII includes a chapter on Bihu that states that the primary festival of the Assamese people is celebrated on the last day of every month and that the total number of Bihu celebrated by people is twelve.

The book has been written by a person named Mohd. E Ali and is published by Dhubri-based book store New Mohammodiya Pustakalaya.

Meanwhile students, parents and guardians and people in general have express shock and dismay over the shocking faux pas by the writer. There have also been demands that action be taking against the writer and the publisher for distorting Bihu and spreading false information about the festival.
