Kharguli Murder: Caretaker Confesses to Killing Elderly Woman Over Verbal Abuse

PUBLISHED:

Kharguli Murder: A shocking murder in Guwahati’s Kharghuli area has left the city stunned, after a caretaker confessed to brutally killing a 69-year-old woman named Bandana Das. The incident unfolded when Ratul Das, who was one of the caretakers looking after the elderly woman, admitted to police that he was the one who committed the crime.

According to the confession, Ratul had been mentally disturbed for a long time due to repeated verbal abuse from the victim. He told police that Bandana Das would often scold him and his family using harsh and insulting words. What hurt him most, he claimed, was that she even said mean things about his young child. These insults had been troubling him deeply for a long period.

On the night of the crime, Ratul returned home after consuming alcohol. Already angry and emotionally overwhelmed, he lost control in a fit of rage. He first strangled the elderly woman and then used a pair of scissors to slit her throat. This horrifying detail was shared by him during police interrogation.

The police launched their investigation soon after Bandana Das’s body was discovered early yesterday morning in her home. The room’s door was found open, which initially raised suspicion that someone close to her might be involved.

Soon after the discovery, the police detained two people who were known to have been taking care of the elderly woman — Ratul Das and another caretaker, Kunjalata Das. During questioning, Ratul finally confessed to the murder.

The incident has deeply disturbed residents of the area, especially because it happened within a domestic environment where the victim trusted her caretakers. More updates from the investigation are awaited, but the case has already raised serious concerns about elder safety and mental health issues among caregivers.
