Social media has been abuzz with a few photographs of Gurukrishna Premananda, religious preacher and head of Krishnaguru Sewashram of Nasatra in Barpeta district.
The images show Gurukrishna Premananda, along with his wife and children, during a foreign trip, and dressed in western casuals.
The images started gaining tremendous traction with people expressing mixed opinions on whether a spiritual leader who has a mass following and fan base should enjoy indulgences like foreign trips with family members.
Many netizens questioned Premananda’s foreign trip with his family, and wanted to further know whether the spiritual leader undertook the tour with money received as donations from his followers.
Others, particularly his followers, were of the view that there can be no bar to a spiritual leader undertaking a foreign tour.
Meanwhile, the Krishnaguru Sewashram defended Gurukrishna Premananda and his family’s foreign trip saying that the spiritual leader, who is also the chancellor of Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Viswavidyalaya, has taken numerous trips to various other countries and hence should never be the subject of a debate.
“Being the chancellor of Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Viswavidyalaya, he visits various places across the globe. Therefore there is no basis for people to question his foreign trip,” Phulen Kalita, president of Krishnaguru Sewashram International Managing Committee, told News Live.
“On the issue of Gurukrishna Premananda prabhu wearing western outfits, will it be wise to tour these countries where the weather is also very cold in dhuti and punjabi,” he further stated.
Gurukrishna Premananda’s followers also defended him over his foreign tour.
“Other spiritual Gurus also visit many other countries. But nothing is said about them. So is it that there is no bar on them visiting other nations but the same does not apply to our Gurukrishna Premananda prabhu?” a follower asked.
