CBSE Class 10 Board: In a big decision for lakhs of students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that from the year 2026, Class 10 board exams will be held twice a year. This means students will now get two chances in one academic year to perform better in their board exams.
CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj confirmed this decision and said the board has officially approved this model. As per the new rule, the first exam will be held in February and the second one in May. The results of the February exam will be declared in April, while May exam results will be released in June.
In this new system, it will be compulsory to appear in the first exam, while the second one will be optional. Students who feel they can improve their marks can take the May exam. Only the better marks out of the two exams will be counted as final. So if a student scores more in the February exam, those marks will be taken; if they score higher in May, then those will be final.
CBSE has made it clear that the syllabus will be the same for both exams — it will cover the complete course. Students who choose to appear in both exams will write them in the same exam centres. Also, the exam fee for both attempts must be paid at the time of registration.
Another important point is that internal assessment will happen only once in the year. Also, if a student misses three or more subjects in the first exam, they will not be allowed to sit in the second one.
The idea behind this change is to reduce exam pressure and give students a chance to do better without the stress of a single final exam. CBSE hopes this move will help many students plan better and score more with less anxiety.
This change will come into effect from the academic year 2026, and students, parents, and schools are being informed in advance so they can prepare accordingly.
