As the Israel-Iran war intensifies, India has stepped up to protect its people with a major evacuation effort. On Friday night, a flight from Mashhad, Iran landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport with 290 Indians on board — most of them from Jammu and Kashmir. These students returned home under Operation Sindhu, a rescue mission launched by the Indian government to bring back citizens stranded in Iran.
The students who returned from Iran were emotional and filled with happiness. They expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the Indian government for carrying out the evacuation smoothly and safely. Many of them were seen chanting “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Jai Hind,” while some sang the patriotic song “Saare Jahan Se Achha.” In a moving moment, a student even bent down to kiss the airport floor, showing their deep love and respect for the Indian soil.
Two more flights from Mashhad are expected to land in Delhi today — one around 4:30 pm and the second late night at 11:30 pm.
This special evacuation was made possible after Iran opened its airspace specifically to allow Indian flights to carry out rescue operations, showing goodwill even in a time of rising tension.
The situation in Iran is deeply worrying. On Saturday, a missile hit a residential building in the city of Qom — close to the sensitive Fordow nuclear facility — killing two people and injuring four others. In Israel, a multi-storey building caught fire in Holon, as reported by CNN.
Since the beginning of the war, at least 639 people have died in Iran, according to Human Rights Activists News Agency. In Israel, the official death count stands at 24 civilians, as reported by Reuters.
Meanwhile, efforts for peace are not showing results. European diplomats met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Switzerland on Friday, trying to find a peaceful solution. But Araghchi clearly said that Iran will only come to the table once “the aggressor (Israel) is held accountable.”
Adding to the global attention, US President Donald Trump has hinted that he may take a final decision in two weeks on whether the US military should directly join the conflict. He said there is still a “substantial chance” for renewed talks about Iran’s nuclear programme — but the clock is ticking.
As the war continues, India’s priority remains the safety of its people, with more evacuation flights underway. Families across the country are breathing a sigh of relief, as their children return home from a region currently caught in one of the most dangerous conflicts in recent years.
