Nalbari boat capsize: Two students among 3 drowned ~ Three persons, two of them school students, have been drowned after a country boat in which they were travelling capsized on the Brahmaputra near Peradhora in Barkhetri in Assam’s Nalbari district.

The mishap took place at around 7:15 am today (June 19), and it is believed that a technical snag led to the country boat, which is said to be many years old, disintegrating into two halves and then sinking into the middle of the Brahmaputra.

The three deceased persons have been identified as Goful Ali (50), Aryan Ali (8), a Class 3 student, and Mazidul Islam (15), a Class 9 student of Rampur Janata School.

At least three more persons, all of them said to be students, are reportedly missing.

NDRF and SDRF personnel, meanwhile, have been pressed into service to rescue the missing boat passengers.

The country boat was on its way from Larkuchi when it overturned near Peradhara Ghat in Mukalmua.
