As many as 84 Air India flights that includes 67 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners were grounded since the fatal Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12 in which 241 out of the 242 passengers and crew members on board were killed.

Reports quoting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that 67 Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights were among the 84 Air India flights cancelled by the airline since June 12.

The latest Air India flight to have been grounded is another Dreamliner that was scheduled to have taken off from Dubai to Delhi which was grounded after the pilot notices a technical snag.

The Air India flight AI-996 was cancelled after the passengers boarded the aircraft and they were told to deboard after it was announced that the flight has been cancelled due to the technical snag.

The highest cancellation were made yesterday (June 17) with as many as 16 Air India flights — 13 Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights among them — grounded due to techinical snags.

Since the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 on June 12, the airline has canceled at least eight international flights. These cancellations include routes to London, Paris, Vienna, and Dubai. The disruptions are primarily due to intensified safety inspections across Air India’s fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, following directives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Incidentally, the Ahmedabad to London Gatwick route, previously operated by Flight AI171 and now renumbered as AI159, has faced cancellations. A flight scheduled for June 17 was canceled due to “aircraft unavailability,” attributed to extended safety checks and airspace restrictions over West Asia.
