Air India Flight Bomb Threat: Just a day after India witnessed one of its worst air disasters in years, another Air India flight sparked panic — this time in Thailand. Flight AI 379, which was flying from Phuket to Delhi, had to make an emergency landing after a bomb threat was discovered onboard. Thankfully, all 156 passengers were safely evacuated.
According to officials at Phuket International Airport, the Air India flight had taken off at 9.30 am local time (around 8 am IST) but made a sudden U-turn over the Andaman Sea after a suspicious note suggesting a bomb was found inside the cabin. The aircraft returned to Phuket and landed safely, where emergency teams were already on standby.
Authorities immediately activated standard emergency procedures. Every passenger was escorted out of the plane with care and calm. Airport staff and security forces searched the aircraft thoroughly but, so far, no explosive device has been found. One passenger is being questioned by Thai authorities, believed to be the one who discovered or possibly placed the threat note.
This scare comes amid heightened tension in the aviation sector. Just a day earlier, an Air India Boeing 787 crashed in Ahmedabad, killing 241 people onboard and 5 people where it crashed into the building. Emotions are running high, and this new bomb threat only adds to public anxiety.
Air India hasn’t released an official statement yet. Meanwhile, Indian authorities are expected to follow up with Thai officials, and passengers are being given full support in Phuket.
Airlines in India have been dealing with an increasing number of bomb threats — many of which turn out to be hoaxes. In 2024 alone, nearly 1,000 such threats were reported, a tenfold increase compared to 2023. Though many were false alarms, each case is treated seriously to ensure passenger safety.
Passengers of flight AI 379 are now waiting for updates and further arrangements. For now, all are safe, and that is a relief.
