An aged couple was found hanging inside their house at Deomornoi in Darrang district of Assam, leading to shock and sensation although depression and loneliness .
The elderly couple — identified as Bhadra Baruah and Joymoti Baruah — lived in their residence with their two granddaughters while their three children, who had earlier lived with their parents, had to relocate elsewhere due to employment reasons.
The couple is believed to have committed suicide with loneliness and the pain of staying away from their children appearing to be the reason for taking the drastic step.
Police found them hanging separately inside their bedroom.
“He was my elder brother and we used to meet everyday. I would give him company almost everyday and we would watch TV and discuss other things. It’s shocking why he took such a step but the pain of staying away from his sons seems to be the reason for them taking such a step,” Bhadra Baruah’s younger brother told News Live.
“The house used to be teeming with people till some years ago but his sons had to relocate to other places due to employment reasons. He seemed to remain somewhat depressed after his sons relocated,” the younger brother further stated.
“It’s shocking. They were simple people. In fact they visited our local Naamghar yesterday and offered prayers although they belonged to Sankari sect,” a neighbour told News Live.
Police are also looking into other possible reasons although they have almost negated the possibility of any foul play leading to the unfortunate deaths of the aged couple.
