Sankar Jyoti Baruah was arrested by Duliajan Police on May 19 in connection with the scuffle that broke out at BN Petrol Pump in Duliajan
Former AASU general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah has walked out of Dibrugarh Central Prison today (May 27) after he was granted bail by Gauhati High Court yesterday.
He was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 30,000.
Sankar Jyoti Baruah was arrested by Duliajan Police on May 19 in connection with the scuffle that broke out at BN Petrol Depot in Duliajan.
Two cases were registered against him at Duliajan Police Station and he was granted bail by Dibrugarh CJM Court in one case on the day of his arrest.
However, since he did not get bail in the other case, he had to stay in judicial custody until Gauhati High Court granted him bail yesterday (May 26).
“I was arrested and 11 sections imposed on me for a post I wrote on Facebook. At the time I was handcuffed by police, Section 307 was not added,” the former AASU leader told reporters after his release.
He thanked people who had rallied behind him after his arrest.
