‘Startling confession’, says Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma after Ripun Borah claimed Gaurav Gogoi’s wife was on Pak Government’s payroll

Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP have been raising the issue of Gaurav Gogoi’s numerous visits to Pakistan and his British wife’s alleged connection with Pakistan’s ISI

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday termed Congress leader Ripun Borah’s confession that Gaurav Gogoi’s British wife Elizabeth Colburn was on the payroll of the Pakistan Government as “startling” and that the issue “raises deeply alarming questions about national security”.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma further stated that the “continued presence of an individual linked to a hostile foreign state — right within the inner circles of a sitting Member of Parliament — poses a serious and unacceptable threat to the integrity of India’s institutions”.

Claiming that “national security is non negotiable”, he said that the government will record the statement of Ripun Bora and that further action will be taken.

“Yesterday, senior Congress leader Sri Ripun Bora made a startling confession — he admitted that the British wife of Hon’ble MP Sri Gaurav Gogoi was, in fact, on the payroll of the Pakistan Government.
If this is indeed true, it raises deeply alarming questions about national security. The continued presence of an individual linked to a hostile foreign state—right within the inner circles of a sitting Member of Parliament—poses a serious and unacceptable threat to the integrity of India’s institutions, Chief Minister Dr Sarma wrote on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.

We were not previously aware of these shocking details. Now that this revelation has come to light, the matter is being examined with the seriousness it demands. National security is non negotiable. We will record statement of Sri Bora and take further action in this matter,” he added.

Congress leader and former APCC president Ripun Borah had on Sunday, while trying to defend Gaurav Gogoi in connection with his Pakistan visits and his British wife receiving salary from across the border despite working in New Delhi, admitted that she was on the payroll of the Pakistan Government.
