The sensational highway robbery took place on the National Highway 715 at Kaliabor in Assam on Saturday night
In a sensational highway robbery on NH 715 at Sotial in Kaliabor in Nagaon district of Assam late Saturday night, seven masked dacoits robbed two traders of Rs 2.5 lakh besides also decamping with three mobile phones.
The two traders named Faizul Islam and Safikul Islam were on their way from Kathpara in Samuguri to Bihora Bazar when the dacoits waylaid their pick-up van (AS-02DC-5104) on the National Highway 715 at Sotial.
The robbers — armed with rods, knives and country-made pistols — first smashed the window panes of the pick-up van and then pulled the two traders out of the vehicle.
After pulling them out from the vehicle and separating them from the driver of the van, the robbers — who were around seven in number — snatched around Rs 2.5 lakh cash from the two traders along with their mobile phones and then hit them with the iron rods when they showed some resistance.
“We were on our way from Samaguri and were going towards Bihora Bazar. It was at around 3:30 am when our vehicle was waylaid by a Bolero car after we had crossed Kaliabor Police Station. Seven men; their faces covered with gamusas, smashed the side windows and dragged us out of the vehicle. They threatened us with knives and rods and took around Rs 2.5 lakh we had besides also taking three mobile phones from us,” Safikul Islam told News Live.
Both traders were injured after they were assaulted by the dacoits. It was only on Monday that they reported the matter to police and, based on their complaint, an FIR was registered at Kaliabor Police Station.
Although police have begun investigations into the case they are yet to make any arrests.
