Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma hits back at Gaurav Gogoi, says he will resign from CM post if single word he said is proved false

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said he will make all evidence collected against Gaurav Gogoi and his visit to Pakistan public in a media briefing on September 10

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said he will resign from the Chief Minister’s post and will even desist from visiting his family if even a single word he has said regarding Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s visit to Pakistan is proved wrong.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma’s reaction came after Gaurav Gogoi failed to counter the CM’s explosive claim made earlier on Sunday (May 18) that the Congress MP had visited Pakistan following an invite from the ISI and the Interior Ministry of Pakistan and that he was “closely working” with the “Pakistani establishment”.

“If even a single word of mine is proved wrong, I will resign from the Chief Minister’s post,” Dr Sarma said.

“Gaurav Gogoi had visited Pakistan on the invitation of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and, upon returning, opposed the purchase of Rafale jets besides seeking information from the government regarding India’s defence deployments and nuclear weaponry and their storage in Parliament,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma told reporters in Guwahati on Sunday evening.

“The crime that Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra has done is nothing compared to what the Congress MP has done. If what Gaurav Gogoi had done is not spying then tell me what is it?” Dr Sarma questioned.

Earlier on Sunday morning Dr Sarma had made the most explosive statement when he claimed for the first time that the Gaurav Gogoi had visited Pakistan following an invitation from the ISI and said the matter is “very serious” and that action will be taken once evidence which he said is already there in the hands of the SIT probing the issue is documented and made court-admissible.

“”He went there following an invite from the ISI, from Pakistan’s Interior Ministry and not from the Foreign or Cultural Ministry or any university. It is a very serious offence and not a trivial issue. There will be action and it is not just a war-of-words many people still think it to be. We have credible information on the basis of which action will be taken,” Dr Sarma had said.

“All escapes routes are closed and all we need is some time to make the proof that we have legally binding. It takes some time for the embassies to provide all detail and hence I am saying that I will announce with concrete and legally-acceptable proof regarding the Congress MP’s Pakistan visits and what he did there on September 10,” the Assam Chief Minister further added.
