Want to also contest from Jorhat, reiterates CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again reiterated his desire to also contest from Jorhat assembly constituency along with Jalukbari LAC, his home turf in the Assam Assembly, in next year’s assembly elections in the State.

Dr Sarma said he would relish the option of also contesting from Jorhat if the party top brass gives him the opportunity.

The Assam Chief Minister had prior to the 2024 general elections first said that would like to also contest from Jorhat.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma, however, said he will continue to represent Jalukbari which has been his home turf in the Assam Assembly for two and a half decades since he first won from the constituency in 2001 defeating the then AGP heavyweight and former Assam Home Minister Bhrigu Kumar Phukan of the AGP.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, meanwhile, said the Government will continue to work for Jorhat and that a lot of work related to infrastructure development of Jorhat town and its adjoining localities has been undertaken by his government which will continue in the coming days as well.
