A brave jawan from Manipur became the second BSF jawan to have been martyred in the line of duty after he succumbed to injuries suffered in cross-border firing by Pakistani soldiers in RS Pora Sector in Jammu division.
Deepak Chimngakham, hailing from Yairipok in Manipur’s Thoubal district, was among eight BSF personnel injured in shelling from Pakistan in the early hours of May 10.
Chimngakham who was only 25 years old, succumbed to his injuries yesterday (May 11).
“DG BSF and All Ranks salute the supreme sacrifice made by Constable Deepak Chingakham in the line of duty.
He was injured in cross border fire by Pakistan on 10th May 2025 along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, Jammu. He succumbed to his injuries today on 11th May 2025.
Prahari Pariwar stands firm with the bereaved family in these trying times,” a BSF statement posted on ‘X’, formerly Twitter, stated.
Meanwhile, Manipur is in tears following the braveheart jawan’s unfortunate demise with people expressing grief and offering their tributes.
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also offered his tributes .
“Deeply saddened by the martyrdom of BSF Braveheart Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham, who received fatal injuries in cross-border firing from Pakistan in the R S Pura sector and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
He was a proud son of Manipur, and as a Manipuri-Meitei, his courage and devotion to the nation reflect the unwavering commitment of our people to protect and serve.
We salute the armed forces for their relentless dedication and bravery. We stand with the family of Constable Deepak in this difficult time and will extend all possible support. His sacrifice will always be remembered with honour and pride,” the former Manipur CM wrote on ‘X’.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the BSF jawan will be brought home tomorrow (May 13).
