PSL match cancelled after drone attack at Rawalpindi Stadium, foreign players express concern amid escalating tensions

PSL match at Rawalpindi cancelled: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, scheduled for Thursday evening at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, has been cancelled following a drone attack at Rawalpindi stadium earlier in the day.

The move comes amid escalating tensions between the India and Pakistan after India launched Operation Sindoor and targeted terrorist bases in nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir early Wednesday to avenge the Pahalgam killings in which 26 civilians, including 25 Hindu tourists.

Tomorrow’s fixture between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi has also been called off, The Times of India reported.

Reports further stated that PCB officials are also considering shifting the remaining matches of PSL to three venues – Karachi, Doha and Dubai.

Rawalpindi was set to host four matches on May 7, 8, 9, and 10.

PCB had on Wednesday claimed that the PSL will continue as per schedule despite the escalating military situation between the two neighbouring nations.

Earlier in the day, visuals of the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium suffering damages after a drone attack surfaced on social media.

Multiple attacks which Pakistan blamed were carried out by India were also reported in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpandi and other Pakistani towns.

Meanwhile, a number of foreign cricketers featuring in the PSL are contemplating to return home in the wake of the escalating situation.
