Will quit as CM if Gaurav Gogoi can prove his minor children are Indian citizens, says Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has upped his attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi saying that the Jorhat MP’s two children are not Indian citizens although one of them was born in India and should have hence been a citizen of India by birth.

“I am sure that neither Gaurab Gogoi’s son nor his daughter are Indian citizens. I have solid proof that the citizenship of the two children of the Congress MPs is not Indian. Their citizenship status was changed by Gaurab Gogoi and his wife without their knowledge,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma said while speaking to media persons after addressing an election campaign rally at Dhubri.

“I will resign as Chief Minister of Assam if Gaurav Gogoi can deny that his minor children are not Indian citizens. His wife is not an Indian citizen and neither his minor son and daughter are citizens of India. Who knows when Gaurav Gogoi relinquish his Indian citizenship,”

Chief Minister Dr Sarma had on Thursday evening, in a post on ‘X’, confirmed for the first time that “the minor children of one Member of Parliament from Assam are no longer citizens of India”.

“I say this with full responsibility — the minor children of one Member of Parliament from Assam are no longer citizens of India. But this is just the beginning. There is much more yet to be revealed,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma wrote in the post.

On the other hand, on the Jorhat MP’s visit to Pakistan when he stayed in the enemy nation for 15 days while keeping the central government in the dark about his visit, which the Assam CM said was very very serious considering the fact that it involved questions about the country’s security, Chief Minister Sarma said startling facts will come out as the SIT is continuing with its investigations.

“Investigations will bring out startling facts. I have been asking the Congress MP to either accept or deny whether he visited Pakistan which he did. He, however, does not deny but keeps on dodging questions,” CM Dr Sarma said.

“He should tell people of Assam what he did during his visit to Pakistan, where he stayed,” he added.
