PUBLISHED:

Massive Fire Breaks Out at Bandra Mall: A serious fire broke out early morning on Tuesday at the Croma electronics showroom inside Link Square Mall, Bandra West, Mumbai. The fire quickly turned into a major incident, prompting a large-scale emergency response by multiple agencies including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, and later, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

All You Need to Know

  • Fire started at 4:11 am in the basement Croma showroom at Link Square Mall
  • Quickly escalated from Level I to Level IV by 6:25 am
  • NDRF was mobilised and reached the site by 7:50 am
  • 13 jumbo tankers, 8 fire engines, and multiple rescue vehicles deployed
  • No injuries reported till now
  • Cooling and ventilation operations still ongoing

The fire started around 4:11 am in the basement of the commercial building located along Linking Road Number 33 in Bandra West. Initially, the fire was small and contained to the basement area where the Croma store is located. But within minutes, thick smoke covered the building, forcing the Mumbai Fire Brigade to increase the fire level several times — from Level I at 4:17 am to Level IV by 6:25 am.

Soon after the fire was reported, nearby residents and people from the area noticed heavy smoke and flames. The Mumbai Fire Brigade reached immediately, followed by other emergency teams. The adjacent building was quickly evacuated for safety. Due to the intensity of the fire, the Fire Brigade called in help from the NDRF, who arrived at the scene by 7:50 am.

At least 13 jumbo water tankers, 8 fire engines, 2 breathing apparatus vans, a rescue van, and other equipment were used. Firefighters also worked with 12 hose lines including nine small lines and two high-pressure lines. Later, firefighting teams deployed a ‘fire-robot’ at the site to assist in battling the intense blaze.

Officials have confirmed that the fire severely damaged multiple shops and restaurants located inside the mall. While the fire caused major financial damage, thankfully, no injuries or deaths have been reported so far.

After controlling the flames, the Mumbai Fire Brigade began the cooling process to avoid any further fire outbreaks. Ventilation is being done by breaking glass panels of the building so that trapped smoke and heat can escape safely.

NCP MLA Zeeshan Siddique, who was at the spot since early morning, criticised the fire department. He said that the fire could have been easily controlled if the fire team had acted quickly and used the equipment properly. He added that the delay in action made the situation worse and allowed the fire to spread to the entire building.

The major fire at the Croma showroom in Bandra has once again raised questions about fire safety in Mumbai’s commercial areas. While quick evacuation and large emergency response helped avoid loss of life, the incident shows how fast a small spark can become a massive threat if not handled in time. As cooling continues, authorities are yet to find the exact reason behind the fire.
