MS Dhoni Finally Loses Cool: Chennai Super Kings fans witnessed a rare sight on Friday night – MS Dhoni visibly upset after CSK’s disappointing five-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk. For someone known for his calmness, Dhoni didn’t hold back this time and openly expressed his frustration at the team’s poor batting performance.
This loss puts CSK in serious trouble. They are now at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with just two wins from nine matches. Their hopes for making it to the play-offs are almost over unless a miracle happens.
After the match, Dhoni spoke at the post-match presentation and was clearly disappointed with the 154-run total his team managed. He said that the pitch was not too difficult to bat on, and that a score of 154 was just not enough. According to him, the team was 15 to 20 runs short of a competitive total.
“We kept losing wickets. The wicket was slightly better in the first innings. It was two-paced later but nothing unplayable. We should have scored more,” he said.
Dhoni also mentioned that while CSK’s spinners bowled in the right areas, the lack of runs on the board gave them little to defend.
One of the few positives for CSK was young Dewald Brevis. Playing his first game of the season, the South African batter scored a solid 42 off 25 balls and showed some fight in the middle overs.
“I think he batted really well. We needed that in the middle order,” Dhoni said. However, he also added that the team still struggles during the middle overs, especially when spinners come on to bowl.
Dhoni didn’t shy away from saying that several players in the squad are not performing, and that’s where the main issue lies. He explained that it’s difficult to keep going with the same team when a majority of players are out of form.
“In a tournament like this, one or two players struggling is okay. But if four or more players are not doing well, it’s difficult. You have to make changes,” he said, sounding quite firm.
He made it clear that CSK needs to assess the pitch properly and put up better totals. “It’s not about scoring 180 or 200 every time. But you must assess the conditions and put enough runs on the board,” Dhoni said with concern.
With just four points from nine games, CSK are sitting at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. On the other hand, SRH’s win takes them to eighth place with six points from nine matches.
Though the fans still chant “Thala” from the stands, Dhoni’s frustration shows that time is running out for CSK this season. Unless their batters step up in the coming games, it might be the end of the road for them in IPL 2025.
MS Dhoni is not one to blame players easily, but this time, the pressure got to him. His honest words reflect the urgency and seriousness of the situation CSK is in. With just a few matches left, CSK will now need to pull off something extraordinary to stay alive in the tournament. Whether that happens or not, fans will still keep supporting their Thala — but they too are hoping for better performances from the team.
