Indian Air Force officer from Arunachal Pradesh among 26 killed in Pahalgam terror attack

An Indian Air Force officer from Arunachal Pradesh was also killed in the dastardly Pahalwam terror attack, orchestrated by Pakistani terrorists who singled out Hindu tourists visiting the Kashmir valley, killing 26 people while injuring at least 20 more.

Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang, a resident of Tajang village in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, was killed in the massacre orchestrated on Hindu tourists by Pakistani terrorists in the senseless killings.

His wife, whom he had married in December last year survived the attack.

Who is Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang?

Corporal Tage Hailyang was a 30-year-old Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel from Tajang village in the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. He was serving at the IAF base in Srinagar and had joined the force some 8 to 9 years ago after completing his graduation in humanities.

He lost his life during a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday (April 22). He was on vacation with his wife, whom he had married in December 2024, when terrorists opened fire at the popular tourist spot, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 people.

Arunachal CM Pema Khandu condoles Corporal Tage Hailyang’s death

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed deep sorrow over the loss, and stated: “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Corporal Tage Hailyang of the Indian Air Force, a brave son of Arunachal Pradesh who hailed from Tajang village in Lower Subansiri. While visiting Pahalgam with his wife, his life was cruelly taken in a senseless act of terror”.

“He served the nation with courage and honour, and his untimely death is a great loss not only to his family but to the entire country. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, especially his wife who survived this horrific incident. May they find strength and solace in this unimaginable time of grief.

We will always remember Corporal Hailyang for his service and sacrifice,” Chief Minister Khandu further stated.

Final Rites at Ziro

Corporal Tage Hailyang’s mortal remains would be flown to Guwahati and from there to Arunachal in a helicopter. The final rites is likely to take place at his ancestral village in Ziro.

Brother reaches Srinagar

IAF Corporal Tage Hailyang’s brother Tagi Mali has reached Srinagar after Hailyang’s wife telephoned him to inform him about her husband’s death.

“I reached Srinagar last night after my brother’s wife informed me about the attack. They were on a holiday trip. I rushed to Pahalgam immediately,” Mali told News Live’s sister channel Northeast Live from Srinagar.

The attack, which began around 2:30 PM yesterday (April 22), claimed 26 lives, including at least two other defence personnel — Indian Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and an Intelligence Bureau personnel.

PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah vow action

The attack forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cut short his Saudi Arabia visit and return home. Upon his arrivel in New Delhi last night, he convened a high-level security meeting at the airport with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to discuss the situation in view of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Home Minister Amit Shah, who had reached Srinagar last night and is overseeing the situation, vowing that those responsible would face severe consequences and that justice would be served.
