The woman named Romila Das was electrocuted as she came into contact with the exposed part of a wire near the under-construction flyover at Chandmari, Guwahati

In another shocking incident in Guwahati, a woman was electrocuted after she came into contact with an electricity cable, part of which was exposed following wear and tear, near the under-construction flyover at Chandmari.

The woman, Romila Das, was trying to cross the road when she came in touch with the exposed part of the cable.

She was rushed to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) where she is stated to be out of danger but is being kept under observation.

“The incident took place around 9:30 am when the woman was trying to cross the road and touched a portion of the electricity transmitting cable that was exposed following a wear and tear. People watched in horror as she came into contact with the exposed portion of the wire as they feared to pull her away. One person then took a bamboo pole and removed the wire, thus saving the woman’s life. Had he not done that, the woman might have died,” a person who saw the woman getting electrocuted told News Live.

People blamed construction officials for the incident saying that they are playing with the lives of the common people by leaving such “death traps” exposed.

“It’s absolutely a lapse on the part of construction officials. They should have sealed the exposed part of the wire. The woman who came into contact with the wire is lucky enough to have survived. A person could have died,” a passerby told News Live.
