Jorhat shocker: Young man assaulted by drunk youths: In a shocker in Jorhat town which has numbed people’s senses, a young man died at a local hospital today (April 22) due to injuries he suffered after he was assaulted by a group of youths, who were apparently drunk. The reason for the fatal assault was that he admonished them for creating nuisance near a bihu function at Chandan Nagar locality of the town on Sunday night.
Bedanga Bhushan Baruah died at Jorhat’s Mission Hospital following serious head injuries he suffered in the brutal assault, his father, a retired Government official, told News Live.
The incident took place on Sunday night when a Bihu function was held at Chandan Nagar locality of the town with people in their thousands enjoying the cultural night.
Bedanga, also a member of the Bihu organizing committee, had come out of the pandal after hearing a group of rowdy youths creating a nuisance near the venue.
He scolded the youths for their behaviour and told them to either behave themselves or else leave the area.
Bedanga thought the youths had dispersed after his scolding but little did he know that they were waiting to take revenge.
Bedanga Bhushan Baruah was on his way home after the Bihu function ended when he was assaulted by the youths with sharp weapons.
A CCTV video showed the rowdy youths assaulting Debanga in the dead of the night.
He was rushed to JMCH and was later shifted to Mission Hospital in a serious condition where he breathed his last today morning.
Four of the attackers have been detained by Jorhat Police after a complaint was filed by Bedanga’s father at Lichubari Police Outpost.
