‘Meghalaya, you swept us off our feet…’: Sachin Tendulkar reminisces time spent and memories made during recent sojourn

Sachin Tendulkar, accompanied by wife Anjali, daughter Sara and a few close acquaintances, arrived in Guwahati on April 3, visited tourist hotspots in Meghalaya and the Kaziranga National Park, before leaving for Mumbai on April 9

Master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar is still relishing the time he spent in Meghalaya with his family during his recent visit to the State.

The cricketing icon, also called the God of Cricket, had been on a week-long visit to Assam and Meghalaya during which he visited several tourists hotspots — including the living root bridges and Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village — besides also visiting Assam’s internationally-famous Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the giant one-horned rhinoceros.

Giving his fans and followers worldwide a sneak peek of his visit to the region, the cricketing icon, who flew back to Mumbai on April 9 after wrapping his week-long sojourn to Meghalaya and Assam, first share a video of him visiting Mawlynnong, and describing what he said was the “pristine cleanliness” besides sharing the moments he spent with the local people, including some lighter moments of some fun and frolic with children of the village.

“No filters needed, when a village looks as beautiful as Mawlynnong.

When there’s pristine cleanliness outside, one feels a sense of calm and serenity inside,” Sachin Tendulkar wrote on Facebook account on April 15, adding a video of his visit to Mawlynnong, declared Asia’s cleanest village by Discovery India magazine.

In another video uploaded by the master-blaster on April 16, he described his visit to the living root bridges, and called them “nature’s own jungle gym”.

“Rooted in adventure!

We managed to find a perfect hideout, in nature’s own jungle gym.

The tangled roots and crystal-clear water were mesmerising.

Every twist and turn here tells a surreal story of the land and its quiet magic,” he wrote, with the hashtag #MeghalayaDiaries.

The former India captain and arguably one of the greatest players in the world to have played the “gentleman’s game” continued to reminisce the memories of his Meghalaya sojourn, and added a few more snapshots of his visit to the State, as he added: “Meghalaya, you swept us off our feet. Great memories”.

“Quite an ‘aesthetic’ photo session with the children. A shy-yet-cool selfie moment with the women I met on the root bridge. Spontaneous cricket in the forest with the next generation of champions.

And of course a game of hide-and-seek with the roots, let’s see if you can spot me!

Meghalaya, you swept us off our feet. Great memories,” he further wrote on Saturday (April 19).

Sachin Tendulkar had earlier made another major announcement and wrote about his Sachin Tendulkar Foundation partnering with the Gates Foundation and the Government of Meghalaya to work together to support a healthier future for children.

“A step forward in our journey as Sachin Tendulkar Foundation, Gates Foundation and the Government of Meghalaya partner to work together to support a healthier future for children.

As we spent time with the lively communities of Meghalaya, we were reminded that real change takes root when compassion and action come together.

The strength of children, the resilience of families, and the dedication of local teams continue to inspire us as we embark on this journey with a shared vision,” the master blaster wrote on his social media accounts.

Besides visiting Meghalaya, Sachin Tendulkar, who was accompanied, among others, by wife Anjali and daughter Sara, arrived at Kaziranga National Park on April 7. They stayed at the famous abode of the one-horned rhinoceros for two nights, taking jeep safaris to the park interiors not just once but twice besides meeting forest officials and guards.

“It was a great experience. I saw many animals including a golden Royal Bengal tiger, many rhinoceros, elephants and other animals. I loved the time spent here. People should come and visit Kaziranga and enjoy the experience,” he said after taking jeep safaris to the interiors of the park.
