Diganta Bharati and his wife had alleged that the Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan insulted him and even snatched his microphone after he was invited on to the stage
The Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan has hit back at music composer Diganta Bharati after he and his wife Bhaswati sought a public apology from the Bihu committee alleging that a member of the committee, who was reportedly intoxicated, insulted him yesterday night for taking to the stage wearing a trouser.
Diganta Bharati was at Chandmari Bihu function where his wife Bhaswati was invited by the committee to perform on Wednesday night.
The committee members, the Bharati couple alleged, invited the noted music composer to the stage for a felicitation ceremony following which a few committe members, they further stated, requested him to sing a song or two for the crowd that had assembled in many thousand for the cultural evening.
Diganta Bharati, however, alleged that one of the committee members, who he and his wife alleged was drunk, walked up to the stage, snatched the microphone from him while Bharati was into the middle of a song, and asked him to get off for allegedly performing while wearing a jeans trouser.
A video available with News Live showed a heated altercation breaking out between Bharati and his wife and other committee members, and they could be seen demanding an apology from the committee for insulting them before thousands of people.
“Why was he invited to the stage? Why was he insulted before thousands of people? It was pre-planned and why wearing a jeans trouser is such a big issue when he was not scheduled to perform here. Other people were also wearing casual trousers. We want an apology from the person who was also drunk,” Bhaswati Bharati was heard telling other members of Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan after the incident.

The husband-wife duo also addressed the media today (April 17) afternoon and, while narrating the incident that had taken place at Chandmari Bihu function last night, demanded an apology from them once again.

The Pub Guwahati Bihu Sanmilan, while responding to the accusations, said they did not insult Diganta Bharati and added that there was no question of tendering an apology to the singer.
The committee said it will provide Diganta Bharati’s wife Bhaswati, who had entered into a contract with them to perform on Wednesday night (April 16), with the money that was earlier agreed upon as per the contract but was adamant at not tendering an apology maintaining they did not insult the singer and his wife in any way.
