Sachin Tendulkar, wife Anjali and daughter Sara along with a few other family members had been on a week-long visit to Assam and Meghalaya and Satya Das drove the master blaster in his car during his visit to the region
GUWAHATI, April 13: Sachin Tendulkar might have wrapped up his visit to Assam and Meghalaya, and left with some unforgettable and indelible memories of the time he spent in the region, there’s another person will always remember the master blaster’s visit and the time he got to spent with the cricketing icon.
Satya Das of Baksa, a driver by profession, who drove Sachin to Meghalaya and Kaziranga and then to Guwahati from where Sachin and his family left for Mumbai on April 9, says the memories of the time he got to spend with the “God of Cricket” would always remain with him for the rest of his life.
In an exclusive interview with News Live, Satya says despite Sachin Tendulkar’s larger-than-life persona, he is very down to earth and recalls how the cricketing icon spent his time during his week-long visit to the region.
Satya says he felt as if it was God who had been with him considering how great Sachin Tendulkar was and yet he was so humble.
“I had been with him since April 3 when he and his family members arrived in Guwahati. He sat in my car and we headed straight to Meghalaya. We went to Cherrapunji on April 4 and then visited Dawki the next day before coming to Kaziranga on April 7,” Satya said, adding that Sachin had been in his car all these days and sat in the front seat while a couple of his friends occupied the rear seats.
“He sat in the front seat next to me in our car while a couple of his friends sat in the rear seats,” Satya recalled, and said that the master blaster did not chat all the time with him but he was very friendly and a very down to earth person.
“He doesn’t talk much but he is very friendly and very down to earth. He would joke occasionally about certain things and would gently pat my shoulders while talking with his friends” Satya said.
“He asked me my name and about Kaziranga and whether I visit the famous park, home to the majestic one-horned rhinoceros, often,” Satya told News Live.
“Sachin Tendulkar was also mesmerized by the natural beauty of Meghalaya,” he said, recalling how the master blaster spoke very highly about the neighbouring State during his conversation with his friends with whom he spoke over phone.
