Mother elopes with to-be son-in-law: The woman named Anita Devi eloped with her daughter’s fiancé 9 days before the scheduled wedding

Mother elopes with to-be son-in-law: In a bizarre incident, a woman eloped with her to-be son-in-law nine days before her daughter was to have taken the wedding vows with him.

The shocking incident has been reported from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh with the woman’s daughter now in shock, dismayed and even refusing to believe that her own mother had done something as terrible as this.

Aligarh Police said the 40-year-old woman named Anita Devi left home taking away jewellery bought for her daughter’s marriage and Rs 2.5 lakh cash, eloping with Rahul, the man who was supposed to have marry her daughter on April 16.

“Don’t try to find me,” Rahul, the groom-to-be, later reportedly called his father after he eloped with his to-be mother-in-law.

Investigation by police revealed that Anita Devi was secretly planning to elope with Rahul and was in constant touch with him over phone which, incidentally, was gifted to her by her to-be son-in-law-turned-paramour, media reports stated.

The couple also switched off their mobile phones after eloping.

The woman’s husband, Jitendra Kumar, expressed shock over the incident and said his wife had been preparing for their daughter’s wedding until this shocking turn of events took place.

“My daughter’s wedding was scheduled for April 16, and my wife had been preparing for it. On the day she left, she told me to visit her sister’s place at 10 am. When I returned home at 8:30 pm, I found that she had been gone since 4:30 am. We searched for her everywhere, but couldn’t find any clues. We then reported her missing to the police. I was in regular contact with her until 10:30 am, but after that, both her phone and the groom’s phone were switched off. I’m shocked and have no idea where she is or who she’s with,” news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

“The boy my daughter was supposed to marry rarely spoke to her. Instead, he would spend nearly 20–22 hours a day talking to my wife. I live in Bengaluru for work and only recently returned to the village. When I saw this closeness, I grew suspicious,” India Today quoted Jitendra as saying.

“We have received a complaint and are conducting a search to locate the couple. Further action will be taken once they are found,” Arvind Kumar, Station House Officer of Madraak police station where a missing complaint was registered after Anita Devi went incommunicado, was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
