With the 2% hike in Dearness Allowance, it will jump from 53% to 55%

GUWAHATI, March 28: The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a 2% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners.

Following the revision, the DA will rise from the existing 53% to 55%, which will mean a hike in salaries of employees.

The 2% hike in Dearness Allowance will benefit nearly 49 lakh central government employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners.

Prior to today’s increase, the last time dearness allowance was hiked was in October last year when it was raised from 50% to 53%.

The salary hike for central government employees and an increase in pension of retired employees comes after the 8th Pay Commission, which was approved by the Centre in January this year, revised wages and allowances of central government employees.

The government provides DA to government employees to compensate them against price rise because of inflation, offering them financial stability and relief.
