GUWAHATI, March 28: Here are the live updates of the Myanmar, Thailand earthquakes.

As many as six earthquakes struck Myanmar today afternoon, the strongest measuring 7.7 Magnitude on the Richter Scale according to the US Geological Survey, causing extensive damage to homes and buildings while many people are feared dead following the multiple quakes.

The first tremor hit northwest of the city of Sagaing on Friday afternoon at around 11:50 am Indian time while the next hit the same area at 12:02 pm IST.

Under-construction Building Collapses in Bangkok

The most chilling of the images of devastation following the earthquakes came from Bangkok where a 30-storey under-construction high-rise building came down like a pack of cards, forcing people nearing its vicinity to scurry for cover.

The massive building was being constructed to house government offices and came crashing down after the first earthquake struck.

Reports said at least 2 people have reportedly died while more than 40 workers are trapped under the debris as rescue work was launched to pull them out of the rubble.

Myanmar declares emergency

A state of emergency has been declared in six regions of Myanmar after the 7+ magnitude earthquake struck the country followed by as many as five aftershocks, the strongest being of 7.0 magnitude according to the National Centre for Seismology.

Myanmar Junta appeals for International aid

Myanmar’s ruling junta, meanwhile, appealed for international humanitarian aid after declaring a state of emergency in the six regions of the country following the devastating earthquakes.

Thailand PM declares ‘state of emergency’ in Bangkok

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra also declared a “state of emergency” in Bangkok following the earthquake that .

India stands ready to offer all possible assistance: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his concern over the situation arising out in Myanmar and Thailand and said “India stands ready to offer all possible assistance”.

“Concerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance. In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby. Also asked the MEA to remain in touch with the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand,” Prime Minister Modi wrote on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.
