GUWAHATI, March 19: A prisoner convicted under POCSO Act escaped from Kokrajhar district jail, sending authorities into a tizzy.
The jailbreak took place on Sunday, March 16, when Hazrat Ali, a resident of Chirang district who was convicted under the stringent POCSO Act for raping a minor and was serving a 20-year jail term, managed to escape from prison during a routine cleaning operation of the jail premises.
“The incident took place around 1:30 in the afternoon on Sunday when the prisoner Hazarat Ali who is serving a 20-year jail term after being convicted under the POCSO Act fled from the jail. He was involved in cleaning the prison when he escaped. An FIR has been registered as per procedure and prison superintendent Rabiram Ingti has been placed under suspension,” an official said.

Kokrajhar Police have, meanwhile, launched a massive investigation to arrest the absconding prisoner.
