The Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon is being redeveloped in two phases at an estimated cost of Rs 1,024 crore
GUWAHATI, March 15: The first phase of the redeveloped Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah today (March 15).
The Union Home Minister also laid the foundation stone of the next phase of the project.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with several ministers, MLAs, MPs and other government officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
The Lachit Barphukan Police Academy is spread over 340 acres of land in Dergaon in Assam’s Golaghat district and is being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 1,024 crore in two phases.
The first phase of the project has been redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 167.4 crore and includes a five-story building housing smart classrooms, weapon stimulator, research labs and administrative offices, among other facilities, besides a museum and a modern parade ground.
Prior to the inauguration, Chief Minister Dr Sarma shared a video of the weapon simulator on his social media handles and said it “will prepare our forces for real world combat scenarios without the hazards & costs involved and ensure their basic training”.
Meanwhile, residential quarters and hostels will be developed in the second phase at a cost of Rs 425.48 crore.
Earlier on Friday evening, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had arrived at Jorhat’s Rowroiah airport for a three-day tour of Assam and Mizoram.
Besides inaugurating the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, Shah will also will attend the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) at Dotma in Kokrajhar on Sunday.
He will also chair a meeting with Chief Ministers of all northeastern States on Sunday to review the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita before departing for New Delhi.
