May this festival bring peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness to all, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya hoped in his Holi message to the people
GUWAHATI, March 10: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya greeted the people on Holi as he extended his warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Assam on the joyous occasion of the festival of colours.
“I convey my warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Assam on the occasion of Holi, the festival of colours. May this festival bring peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness to all,” Governor Acharya said in a statement.
Governor Acharya also said that the festival of colours represent the diversity of the country and the celebrations of the festival by the people cutting across all caste, creed and community strengthen the inherent unity existing among the people.
“Let the festival fortify our harmonious co-existence and motivate us to work for a common cause that is development of the state. I hope the festival becomes a harbinger of joy, happiness and merriment for all,” the Assam Governor stated.
Governor Acharya, along with First Lady Kumud Devi, took part in pre-Holi festivities with the officers and staff of Raj Bhavan at a programme held at the premises of Raj Bhavan, Guwahati, yesterday (Thursday).

Speaking on the occasion, the Assam Governor highlighted the importance of the festival in strengthening social bonds and promoting harmony.
“India, with its rich diversity, is a unique example of unity in diversity. Every state in the country celebrates Holi in its own traditional way, yet the feelings of enthusiasm, love, and collective joy remain the same everywhere,” he said.
He pointed out that Holi is not just only a festival of colours, it is a celebration of the confluence of diverse cultures, where different communities partake in the festivities with great joy, following their unique traditions.

Governor Acharya also acknowledged the spiritual roots of Holi in Assam, particularly its connection to the teachings of saints and spiritual gurus.
“In Assam, Holi is deeply intertwined with the Neo-Vaishnavite tradition propagated by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev,” Governor Acharya said.
He highlighted how the festival holds profound spiritual significance in Assam, especially in places like Majuli and Barpeta Satra, where it is celebrated with devotion, faith, and joy.
The event was also marked by a cultural performance organized by the North East Zone Cultural Centre, which added a special touch to the celebrations.
