GUWAHATI, Feb 27: The 5.3 Magnitude earthquake that hit Assam at 2:25 am Thursday left many people in shock as the earth shook for a few seconds as most of the people were in deep slumber.
Although there have been no reports of casualties or injuries, or even damage to property, people were caught unaware as the quake woke people up from their slumber, many people reportedly running out of their homes in shock and fear.
“It was very scary. It shook so violently that I thought we will all die. We were all in deep sleep,” Anjali Deka of Guwahati’s Rajgarh Road told News Live.
“It was so scary that I could not sleep for the entire night. I felt as if another one would jolt us again,” Parthajit Sarania, who had just gone to sleep after attending to a Shivaratri puja at his locality in Guwahati, told News Live.
Although the epicentre of the earthquake was in Morigaon district, tremors were felt across Assam and also in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, and in Bhutan, China, and Bangladesh.
