GUWAHATI, Feb 26: The Maha Kumbh Mela will end today as lakhs of devotees made a beeline to Prayagraj for the final holy ‘snan’ on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.

Maha Shivratri holds a special place in the Maha Kumbh context and with the Maha Kumbh ending today, it is drawing many lakhs of devotees to the banks of the River Ganga, particularly to the Sangam, for the final holy dip.

This year’s Maha Kumbh began on January 13 and witnessed six special ‘snan’, including three ‘Amrit Snan’, with the event drawing curtains later today.

Devotees were seen rushing towards the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, for the final ‘snan’ since the wee hours of Wednesday.

Security has been beefed up for the last ‘snan’ and authorities have turned the entire Kumbh Mela area into a ‘no vehicle zone’ anticipating higher footfall.

Uttar Pradesh government also issued an extensive advisory for devotees, advising them to take dips at the ghats closest to them.

Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had on Tuesday wished devotees for the ‘Amrit snan’ at the Maha Kumbh.

“Lord Mahadev, the God of Gods, is universally revered among the masses. Festivals and celebrations strengthen our traditions and national unity. The Jyotirlingas across India stand as symbols of national integration,” Adityanath was quoted as saying.
