Assam’s Tea community jubilant over Jhumoir Binandini programme, PM says Centre, State govt ‘working continuously for their welfare’

GUWAHATI, Feb 23: The tea community of Assam is jubilant and ecstatic over the State Government’s “Jhumoir Binandini” event which will see 8,800 dancers perform the traditional dance form of the community before a distinguished audience which will include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ambassadors of several foreign nations and delegates attending the two-day Advantage Assam 2.0 Infrastructure & Investment Summit at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on Feb 24 evening.

The final dress rehearsal for the event, planned to commemorate 200 years of Assam tea, will be held today evening before tomorrow’s final performance.

“It’s a great step taken by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State Government to honour and celebrate the services of the tea community in building a ‘Bor Asom’. Our community will remain ever grateful to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in particularly for the work his government has been doing for the overall welfare of our community,” a participant of the mega event told News Live.

Meanwhile, Chief Minster Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Sarusajai Stadium on Saturday evening and witnessed the rehearsal of Jhumoir Binandini where he also announced Rs 25,000 each for every participant and trainer.

He also announced Rs 30,000 to each of the members of the expert team who have been helping the dancers to put up their show besides also announcing Rs 25,000 for every tea garden for setting up cultural clubs.

“We also welcome the cash incentives announced by Chief Minister Dr Sarma for the participants and trainers besides the one-time grant for the setting up of cultural clubs in every tea garden,” another participant said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is looking forward to the event and reiterated the commitment of both the central and State governments to keep working for the development of the tea community.

“On the 24th evening, I will be at the Jhumoir Binandini programme in the vibrant city of Guwahati. This programme celebrates the culture of Assam, especially the tea tribes and other tribal communities of the state. The Central and Assam Government are working continuously for their welfare,” Prime Minister Modi wrote on ‘X’.

He also heaped praises on the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit and once again confirmed his participation in the twin events.

“On the 25th, I will take part in the Advantage Assam Investment Summit, which seeks to add momentum to the state’s development journey,” Prime Minister Modi added.
