Former KKR star, who slammed 21 tons and scored 7,200 runs but did not get India call, retires

GUWAHATI, Feb 11: Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Saurashtra batter Sheldon Jackson on Tuesday retired from professional cricket at the age of 38 after a career that spanned 15 years during which he scored more than 7200 runs, and slammed 21 centuries and 39 fifties in 105 first-class matches but did not get a call to play for India.

A prolific right-handed batter who also kept wickets for Saurashtra in limited-overs matches, Jackson made his debut for Saurashtra in 2011.

He was part of KKR and was drafted into the team after being spotted by former Bengal player Joydeep Mukherjee.

His last outing, however, ended in a defeat against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal where he made 14 and 27 as Gujarat won by an innings and 98 runs.

Another Ranji record he holds is for the most number of sixes as he has 141 biggies to his name in 160 innings.

However, despite his heroics and the batting prowess he displayed in the domestic circuit, he never received a call-up to represent India in international matches.
