GUWAHATI, Feb 9: Manipur Police arrested three militants during two separate operations for their alleged involvement in extortion activities.
In the first operation, Manipur Police arrested two cadres of the UNLF (Pambei) faction from Narankonjil near Chandranadi village in Imphal-West district.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Khoisnam Ronaldo Singh (23) and Soram Ngouba Meitei alias Sanatomba (30).
Police said the duo was directly involved in extorting money from government officials, shopkeepers and other people in Greater Imphal areas while also being involved in illegal smuggling of arms and ammunitions.
A .32 pistol along with a magazine, a two-wheeler, two mobile phones and a wallet containing Rs 3120 cash were recovered from the two militants.
In the second incident, an active member of RPF/PLA, identified as Ningthoujam Khamba alias Nganba Meitei (52), was arrested from Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Machin in Imphal West district.
The arrested person was directly involved in extortion activities from rented houses and shops in Nagamapal and Uripok area, Police said.
A two-wheeler, two mobile handsets, a wallet containing Rs 510 and one Aadhaar Card was recovered from his possession.
