GUWAHATI, Feb 9: Twelve Maoists were killed while two security personnel martyred in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district today, reports quoting police said.
The encounter took place inside the Indravati National Park area when a security team was conducting an anti-Maoist operation.
“As per preliminary information, 12 Naxalites were killed in the gunfight,” news agency PTI quoted a senior police official as saying.
Two security personnel were also injured in the gunbattle.
Today’s incident comes after at least 16 Naxals were killed in another encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district on January 21.
