GUWAHATI, Feb 9: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Sunday submitted her resignation to Lt Governor VK Saxena, stepping down as CM of the national capital after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a rout in the assembly elections, results of which were declared yesterday (Feb 8).

Atishi was among the few AAP bigwigs to win the elections as she retained her Kalkaji seat defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3521 votes as several other top party leaders — including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his former deputy Manish Sisodia and minister Saurabh Bharadwaj — faced a crushing defeat.

The BJP won 48 seats, up 40 from the 8 seats it had won in 2020 while the AAP tally came down from 62 in 2020 to just 22 seats.
