GUWAHATI, Feb 5: Voting began for the 70 assembly seats of Delhi at 7 am today with brisk voting reported from early morning hours and is expected to pick up pace as the day progresses.
A total of 1,56,14,000 registered voters — 83.76 lakh males and 72.36 lakh females, and 1,267 third-gender voters — will decide the fate of candidates in the elections. 2.39 lakh first-time voters aged 18-19 are among the eligible voters who are expected to cast their votes.
To ensure a smooth and secure voting process, 97,955 polling personnel and 8,715 volunteers have been deployed across the national capital.
While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is aiming for a hat-trick of electoral victories in the national capital, the BJP is hoping to end AAP’s reign. The Congress is optimistic of bettering its performance and bring back the glory days of yesteryears.
Among the key political personalities to exercise their franchise include President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jgdeep Dhankhar and his wife Sudesh Dhankhar, Delhi Chief Minister Aatishi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and his wife Kyoko, Delhi Congress leader Sanjay Dikshit and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj.
