GUWAHATI, Jan 28: In a sensational incident that has raised shock and concern, a man, hailing from Bokakhat, was forced into a vehicle — a Mahindra Scorpio — by a group of persons from the busy Pan Bazaar locality in broad daylight in an apparent abduction bid.
The victim, identified as Nabajyoti Rajkhowa, was pushed into the vehicle by the group of men from in front of the Niri’s Park View Restaurant in Pan Bazaar, Guwahati.
The incident took place around 12:10 pm today.
Eyewitnesses said the abductors were around 5-8 in number.
“The victim came to our restaurant, had some food and had gone out to leave when he was waylaid by four-five persons before they forced him into the car and speed away,” the manager of the restaurant, who saw the incident unfold between his eyes, told News Live.
CCTV visuals showed the men dragging and pulling Rajkhowa out into the street before forcing him into the car and them speeding away.
Reports said the man had a bag with him and the bag reportedly contained a good amount of cash. Police, however, are yet to verify this claim.
As the car took towards GS Road, and was speeding in the direction of Bhangagarh, the victim managed to jump out of the car near Ulubari.
The car reportedly sped off.
The reason for the apparent abduction bid is not known. More details awaited.
